Flushing Instructions
First, remove the old pump, reservoir & feed hose between the pump & reservoir.
Thoroughly clean the reservoir & feed hose with brake or carby clean.
Fit the new pump & the clean feed hose & reservoir but don’t fit the thin hose back to the reservoir. Run the thin hose into a bucket & block where the thin hose goes on the reservoir. Fill the reservoir with approved oil (Ford power steering oil recommended for these systems available at most retail outlets). Start the vehicle for a few seconds only while slowly turning the steering wheel from lock to lock. The old fluid will run into the bucket. Stop the engine before the oil runs out completely. Refill the reservoir & repeat the process. You’ll generally go through 2-3 litres of oil.
Once completed refit the hose to the reservoir, then cut a section out of the thin low pressure hose somewhere were the filter will fit. DO NOT CUT THE HIGH PRESSURE HOSE! Insert the filter with the arrow facing back towards the reservoir & put a couple of hose clamps on it. Refill the system & run the vehicle.
Please ensure both hoses to the reservoir are in good condition. If in doubt replace them (hoses available from the dealer).
